Google Preview

If you’ve been following the search engine wars, the latest craze the kids are into these days is providing thumbnails of the web sites that return in search results. Google, however, sticking to the ‘less is more’ approach, doesn’t have this feature. Chu Yeow points us to a Firefox extension that changes all of that.

What is it?
A Mozilla Firefox 0.9+ browser extension that inserts preview images (thumbnails) of web sites, Amazon products and stock charts into the Google search results page.

It sounds like one of those things that would be very slow, but I was suprised to find that the extension doesn’t seem to slow the rendering of the search page down at all. It contacts a service on the web to get the thumbnails rather than trying to generate them on the fly. Very cool.

There doesn't seem to be one for the Mozilla suite. I dunno, I tried Firefox and The 1.7 suite just feels better.
