User-Agent Switcher for Mozilla

User Agent Switcher Extension: I don’t know how, why, or when I would ever use this, but it’s a great example of the velocity of the development over at Mozilla. They have an extension for about anything these days.

The User Agent Switcher extension for Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla adds a menu to switch the user agent of the browser. It is designed to provide functionality similar to the ‘Browser Identification’ feature of Opera and allows configuration of the list of user agents to display in the menu.

This was a helpful feature in the debug menu of Safari when it was first released as many sites did not recognize it and were blocking... always good to be able to defeat those silly auto-detects when there is nothing more than a web site (no browser specific code) on the other side.

This is a very useful extension. It has allowed me access to many IE only corporate sites. One suggestion would be to include a few older user agent strings by default for things like Netscape 4.7x for Mac....for things like Yahoo's Launch music video service. (Yahoo's Mac requirements for that site are Netscape 4.7 and of course that browser is to old to run in OSX. I have had trouble getting that user string correct for some reason.)

i use to keep all my user agent info blank. it has never caused any connection problems before.
